On November 26th and 27th, ECOFI attended the European Commission’s Expert Group on Fertilising Products (CEG-FP) as an Observer Member. Our membership in the CEG-FP allows us to share our members’ expertise to help ensure the efficient implementation of the EU Fertilising Products Regulation and provides our members with valuable insights on updates to the regulation.
This meeting of the CEG-FP was of particular importance as it allowed ECOFI to give our feedback on the draft final report on the Technical Study to include new materials in CMC 10 (Animal By-Products) of the Fertilising Products Regulation. Revalorising animal by-products is one way our members produce high-quality organic-based fertilisers and contribute to the circular economy. However, producers currently face a number of regulatory challenges when trying to use animal by-products as component materials in their organic-based fertilisers.
ECOFI representatives also provided input on a number of other important implementation aspects of the EU Fertilising Products Regulation, including FAQs, conformity assessment, market surveillance, the inclusion of new materials, and more.
ECOFI continues to work hard to advocate for the asks in our manifesto, supporting the European Commission in its efforts to improve Single Market access for organic-based fertilisers and deliver on a more circular and sustainable future for European agriculture.
