The European Consortium of the Organic-Based Fertiliser Industry (ECOFI) is the meeting place for companies producing organic fertilisers (whether certified for organic agriculture or not), organo-mineral fertilisers, organic soil improvers and fertilisers incorporating components derived from organic materials, as well as companies supplying their raw materials and intermediates.
ECOFI is recognised by the European Commission as a mandated representative of the organic-based fertiliser industry and as an official Liaison Organisation to CEN, the European Committee for Standardisation.
ECOFI participates alongside Member States in the European Commission Expert Group on Fertilising Products (CEG-FP) that helps implement and revise the EU Fertilising Products Regulation (FPR) 2019/1009.
This covers issues included, but (not limited to):
- Determining end-points for animal by-products
- Elaborating the criteria for the inclusion of industrial by-products
- Contaminants in organic fertilisers
- Conformity assessment under FPR

As an official CEN Liaison Organisation, ECOFI contributes to the elaboration of technical specifications harmonised standards that simplify the placing of organic-based fertilising products on the European Single Market, ECOFI actively advocates for the benefits of organic-based fertilisers to key stakeholders:
- Organic-based fertilisers and soil improvers (OBFs) are key enabling technologies for the delivery of the European Green Deal.
- OBFs help organic and conventional farmers improve soil health and fertility.
- ECOFI helps policy-makers, farmers and other stakeholders to understand the added value of refined OBFs compared to raw manures and other unprocessed organic products and to understand their complementary role with mineral fertilisers.
If you would like to be recognised as one of the companies making plant nutrition and soil fertility more sustainable, join ECOFI today.
