The European Consortium of the Organic-Based Fertiliser Industry (ECOFI) is proud to release its new manifesto for the legislative year 2024 to 2029, which calls on the European Commission and European Parliament to put competitiveness and sustainability at the heart of their work over the next term and beyond. The EU needs a fresh vision for its approach to its agriculture and food sectors. This fresh vision must involve the EU taking transformative actions in the realms of competitiveness and sustainability to support farmers while also guaranteeing food security and bolstering Europe’s strategic autonomy.

ECOFI President Quentin Protsenko says
We are stronger when we are united.
We are united to leverage EU policymakers in favour of industry interests.
Organic-based fertilisers include organic fertilisers, organo-mineral fertilisers, organic soil improvers, and fertilisers incorporating components derived from organic materials. These circular products have a long and rich history within Europe, but the EU must do more to support farmers’ access to these high-quality fertilising products by:
- Putting agricultural innovation at the heart of the new European legislative term
- Placing innovation in circularity at the heart of their ambitions for 2024 – 2029 and ensuring policy coherence to support the circular economy
- Ensuring high-quality organic-based fertilisers are given equal access to the European single market
- Providing farmers with an enabling framework and concrete policy incentives to ensure access to and uptake of organic-based fertilisers
The ECOFI manifesto has three key sections outlining how organic-based fertilisers can help the EU:
- Achieve its own political vision of a circular economy by preventing unnecessary nutrient loss, thus bolstering the EU’s strategic autonomy
- Improve European soil health, which is vital to building a sustainable and climate resilient future for agriculture
- Build a more sustainable food system
By supporting the production of organic-based fertilising products and supporting farmers’ access to them, the EU can help create a sustainable, resilient, and competitive agricultural future!
